To help promote Teton Guitar’s line of guitars with exotic woods, I created an illustrated ad depicting one of my favorite models. It’s a walnut guitar with beautiful woodgrain patterns, which you can see here. Exotic woods are generally from areas with lush jungle, so I wanted to really give off that impression here. Fortunately, the brand’s teal-forward color scheme lent itself really well to this type of subject matter. I’ve learned over several projects now that I love drawing things like trees, leaves, and organic nature backgrounds in general, so this was a fun one.
Like with most of my illustrations, this stared with a sketch, then went to flats and rendering. I decided to let the texture of my digital brushes do most of the talking and leave the background to a relatively flat design. The guitar on the other hand, needed a lot more detail. I wanted it to still fit the style of the rest of the background, but as the focal point, it got the most attention.
I also made some backgrounds for the Instagram stories to go along with the rest of the campaign. The social media manager was able to easily place these backgrounds into their stories and add whatever descriptions, stickers, or guitar models they needed on top.
